Springfield Armory Scopes have a long history, as the company was founded by George Washington himself. He designated Springfield Armory as the USAs first arsenal in 1794. Springfield scopes are battle proven and reliable, so they quickly developed a civilian following in addition to their existing military following.

Springfield Armory XD would be the first thing to come on peoples minds when asked about the most well-known handgun on the market. It is in demand among legally armed civilians though not as popular with law enforcement agencies. However, Springfield Armory is manufacturing a new and improved XD pistol, the XD, which might change it all.

Firstly, the operator is allowed to install three different sizes of backstraps because XD is designed to accommodate an interchangeable grip system. This lets the shooter change the ergonomics of the pistol to suit his or her hand size better. One pistol can be patterned to accommodate a variety of hand sizes that is why this feature makes the XD an enticing pistol for law enforcement agencies.

Its grip angle instantly caught my eye. When the pistol is gripped, the operator’s hand is leaned forward a bit. This is due to a slight angle to the front of the grip. Springfield Armory Engineers also designed it with three curved backstraps of different sizes.

While other pistols tend to have the interchangeable backstraps fit over the entire back portion of the grip area, the XD’s interchangeable backstraps are connected to the bottom two-thirds of the grip portion of the polymer frame.

This design has many advantages. First, when gripping a Springfield XD, the meaty portion of your hand is pressed against the rounded backstrap.This aids in positioning your hand up and forward so the grip safety is securely compressed by the web of your hand. This also tucks the web of your hand under the slide where it overhangs off the back end of the pistol’s frame. This can make you position your hand as high up on the grip as possible without repeatedly repositioning your hand in order to find the right grip after the handgun is detached from the holster.

Your thumb can comfortably rest above the magazine release button because the XD has a cutout on both sides of the polymer frame. A modification like this helps place your hand in the right position each time you grip an XD pistol. Excellent gripping surface on the XD is provided by the interchangeable back straps and the deep grooves that are cut into polymer grip.

The length of reach to the trigger on the XD is also highly regarded because it is close to perfect range for me. This allows right amount of finger control on the trigger because my finger tip is positioned correctly even though a thicker medium sized backstrap on the full size XD pistol is used.
